Our first unit is about animals and how they adapt to their respective environments.
We can't just jump in and look at all the animals worldwide. NO. We needed to approach it with a plan.
Our first environment is the desert, which is very extreme and harsh. So, we needed to create our own classroom desert with its unique vegetation. We looked at the four most common desert animals: the camel, the rattlesnake, the desert scorpion and the kit fox. We learned about their features, their skills and how they can survive in the desert heat. Then we had the freedom to explore and interact with this very sandy, dry and lack of water habitat.

To add to the excitement of desert animals, we asked the school doctor to introduce her pet lizards. This was a time for risk-taking and asking loads of questions.
Lizard time
We also had a friend willing to share an extraordinary animal with all of us during circle time. We welcome more students to share their knowledge with all of us.

Through prior knowledge expression, we can share our thoughts about animals and where they might live, and we will learn about more animals during this unit.
