据新课标，高中词汇学习除了词汇量增加，在词汇学习能力方面也有了更高的要求。例如：（1）在语境中理解具体词语的功能、词义的内涵和外延，以及使用者的意图和态度等；（2）运用构词法知识扩大词汇量，结合各种主题语境积累词块，深度学习词汇，在表达各种信息时提高词语使用的准确性和丰富性；（3）在特定的语境中有效的运用同义词、近义词、反义词，正确理解和确切表达比较复杂的主题意义和观点。相对应的，在新教材每单元当中专门设有Build up your vocabulary板块，但是如何挖掘与利用好此板块来达到课标所提出的要求呢？余武飘老师设计的这堂课就给我们做了一个很好的示范。她将reading and thinking板块与Build up your vocabulary板块做了巧妙地过渡与结合，让课堂有了不一样的深度，同时也给我们提供了新的思路。那么接下来，我们就来一起走进余武飘老师的课堂，来发现更多的精彩之处.

This lesson is intended to help students enlarge their vocabulary, not only in terms of the number of it but the methods they learn them. For senior high school students, learning vocabulary is even more important than grammar, just as the famous sayings goes, without grammar, very little can be conveyed, but without words, nothing can be conveyed. However, as for how to learn new words effectively, many students find it unattainable. It is indeed necessary to take the effort to guide the students to explore a bit even thought it is challenging to do so.
The lesson is activity-based. Three activities are all associated with the objective. Activity one and two are about exploring word formation and the last is about applying word knowledge in contexts. After finishing exercise one about finding the different forms of the words in the table, students are directed to paying attention to the word family when they learn words and when they express their ideas. Exercise two helps the students to notice the link between the converted words. Conclusions about how words are formed can be reached after these two activities. In order to better understand the text, students are guided to analyse the messages behind it. So I design four questions after filling in all the blanks.
This lesson type is a whole new topic for me. I feel proud that I am brave enough to challenge myself. However, much improvement remained to be done. For one thing, more time should be allocated to students and students should be given more opportunities to talk through pair work or group work. For another, lead-in step and finding the sentences with the target words can be directly shown on the slides. According to my colleagues’ suggestions, the first exercise can be actually done before class. The summary task is tricky for students to finish so it can be changed into a gap-filling task. They are good advice. Hopefully, I can do it better next time.
