This summer vacation, my family and I went to the Yungang Grottoes, one of the most famous grottoes in China, located in Wuzhou Mountain, 17 kilometers west of Datong City, Shanxi Province
Yungang Grottoes, formerly known as Lingyan Temple, Stone Buddha Temple
Yungang Grottoes was excavated in the Northern Wei Dynasty, which lasted about 150 years. It went through the Northern Wei, Eastern Wei, Western Wei, Northern Qi, Sui and Tang Dynasties. There are 45 main caves in existence. There are more than 51,000 stone statues of various sizes, 252 of which are gems in the treasure house of Chinese grotto art
Yungang Grottoes, as the first grotto authorized by the royal family in China, reflects the political center of the Northern Wei Dynasty, including both Indian and Central and Western Asian elements, as well as Greek and Roman construction structures and features, reflecting the origin relationship between the world's major civilizations, which is of great significance to the development of Chinese art in later generations. On March 4, 1961, Yungang Grottoes was distributed as the first batch of national key cultural relics protection units in the State Council of the People's Republic of China
