If one of your bucket list things is to see the Northern Lights, and if you have some free time later this week, you are in luck! Scientists are predicting that in northern Washington State (up near the Canadian border), the aurora borealis should be visible. More info here:

If you were not aware: Seattle is in a wonderful spot where not only do we have some pretty amazing things to do and see right here, but we are pretty close to some great places to visit as well:
Snoqualmie Falls (featured in old TV show Twin Peaks) is a half hour away, and free
Tacoma, WA, home to the Museum of Glass, America’s Car Museum, and Point Defiance Park (with the Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium), is only 45 minutes away
Mount Rainier (alive but dormant volcano) is about 2 ½ hours away
Mount St. Helens (erupted last in 1980, rumbling a little but still sleeping volcano) is also about 2 ½ hours away (you just can’t go as far up the mountain as you can Rainier)
A large concentration of reindeer are right nearby (and you can meet and feed them) in the adorable Leavenworth, WA (about 2 ½ hours away)
Vancouver, BC is only 2 ½ -3 ½ hours away (depending on traffic when you leave here/arrive there) (you’ll need your passport)
In the other direction: Portland, OR (home to Voodoo Doughnuts and Powell’s City of Books – a MUST VISIT if you like reading – among other stuff) is the same distance
The only temperate rainforest in the US is to the west of us, about 4 – 4 ½ hours away (near Forks, WA, if that means anything to you)
Victoria, BC, a beautiful island with lots to see, including Butchart Gardens, is only 4 ½ - 5 ½ hours, including a ferry ride (you’ll need your passport)
