Cloud Class is off to a great start with our new unit. Our new unit centers around the idea that understanding our daily routines helps us manage our time and activities. We kicked things off with the very first routine we do when we arrive at the kindergarten: the morning health check.
When children arrive at school, everyone follows the same health check routine. There are five steps involved in this routine. Take a look.
Step one: Say good morning. The doctor will greet the students and the students will greet the doctor.
Step two: The doctor will perform an oral check.
Step three: The doctor will check your nails.
Step four: The doctor will take your temperature.
Step five: The doctor will ask the parents if the child feels uncomfortable.
Step 6: The doctor will issue the health card.
Step 7: Say goodbye
The children had many opportunities to role play being little doctors and to practice performing this routine with each other.
Through practicing this routine, we also learned that there are different colored health cards. There are four different colors: red, blue, yellow, green. Do you know what the different colors mean?
Red means you have a sore throat, a cough, or a runny nose. You need to drink more hot water.
Blue means you have a injury.
Yellow means you have a sore tummy.
Green means your health is excellent!
After we explored our very first routine of the day, we moved on to other routines, like our mealtime routines. We learned what to do before, during and after each mealtime. And not only that, we learned about kitchen routines and how to use knives safely. We practiced cutting many different kinds of food and fruit: bananas, eggs, bread.
We also peeled corn.
It was so much fun! We used our cutting skills to prepare delicious fruit salads which we shared with the doctors and other members of staff at our kindergarten. They were so proud of our cooking skills!
Later, we found out where our food and snacks come from. We went to visit the school kitchen and meet the school chef. We thanked him for the yummy food he cooks for us every day.
We also learned about the importance of good eating habits, like eating slowly and taking small bites.
It has been an exciting and informative few weeks here in Cloud Class. We can’t wait to see the fun learning experiences the rest of the unit has in store for us. Well done to our Cloud Class children for being brave risk-takers and active inquirers!
