In these past two weeks, we went further in our appreciation of the arts. We tried creating our own versions of his "Starry Night" and "Sunflowers" paintings.
We used different tools and materials to recreate Starry Nights, including markers, paint and play dough.
And we used paint to recreate Van Gogh's Sunflowers painting.
We also began to explore the concept of perspective. We learned that people have different perspectives when they view art. We asked the children questions to gain insights on their perspectives.
We asked questions like:
What can you see?
What color is it?
What shapes can you see?
What's the same in these two paintings? What's different?
Do you like this painting? Why? Why not?
We showed our little rainbows these two famous paintings from Van Gogh and asked them which one they liked best. They all had different opinions.
Teacher's question: Why do you like Starry Night?
Nara: Because I like blue.
Arya: I also like blue.
Penny: Because I like the moon.
Luke: Because it looks like the ocean.
Alex: Because it's beautiful.
Jason: Because I like the tree.
Teacher's question: Why do you like Sunflowers?
Jasper: Because I like flowers.
Jia Yu: Because I like yellow.
Dana: Because it's colorful and beautiful.
The children had a lot of fun discovering beautiful works of art and trying to recreate them. We saw how much their creativity and expression improved throughout the unit. Our little rainbows are Thinkers and Risk-takers. Well done, little ones!
