These two weeks we have learned that except the clear and clean oceans we have been to there are still some oceans which are polluted. They are polluted because of oil leak、plastic pollution、broken fishing nets and dirty water.
This week we decided to build a polluted ocean to help children have a better understanding of our current ocean and the changes of our oceans. First we created our ocean with KT board, then we painted "the ocean" with paints, finally we filled it with different trash ( paper、plastic、fishing nets and oil). They can make a comparison with the healthy ocean and polluted ocean to reflect our behaviors to environment and take more responsible actions to make our oceans and environment better. During the process, children's conceptual understanding of "change" and "impact" have been developed.
Create the ocean with paint
Through the videos we know that because of the ocean pollution, lots of sea animals got sick or died. Children wanted to make a “dead whale ” which is filled with different trash in its tommy
We made the shape of the whale with kt board
We work together
Fishing nets
plastic pollution
oil leak
dirty water
These are the reasons of ocean pollution
We found some seashells、sea snails 、rocks to build the ocean
We found some nets to make fishing nets
We made some big reefs and corals with recycled paper
How can we protect our ocean?
Throw trash into trash can and sort waste
Catch fishes with other tools not fishing nets
We got some very creative ideas
Make a robot fish to drink the oil
Make a robot boat which can eat trash
Later we are going to make our action plan for ocean protection
Child also got chances to develop their research skills
We made some funny experiments
Waterwheels :children learn about the renewable sources of energy with waterwheels which are made of recycled materials
We have chances to try
We also recorded the experimental result with symbolic languages
Little inquirers
Little thinkers
Our Research skills had been developed
We still got chances to be little communicators
Children express their perspectives with the sentence structure: Dear people…
If I were a polar bear, I would say:Dear people, please don’t take negative actions, my home is melting
If I were a bird, I would say : Dear people, please don’t throw trash
After several weeks’ inquiry into rainforest, we learned that human’s negative action impact our rainforest a lot. The area of the rainforest is declining
How to protect the rainforest?
We need to make an action plan and provoke others to do it together
In order to make our environment better, we need to take action in our daily life
First, save food
We should finish each meal every day
We still need to save paper and tissues
How can we know how much we used every day
We record how many pieces of paper and tissue we used each day to remind each other to take positive action
If we all take positive actions. Our environment will be much better
