For the past few weeks the children in K1C have been learning about how our bodies can do many things. Let’s take a look at what they have discovered so far.
We began by looking at external features. The students looked closely at the parts of our bodies that help us to sense the world around us. Without these we wouldn’t be able to enjoy our favourite things like tasting ice-cream and smelling flowers.
Next it was time to take a look inside. We looked at some of the primary organs that help us to stay alive such as our brain, lungs, heart and stomach. The children had to decide where each of these are situated. Everyone was amazed at how so many large organs can all fit inside of us!
Now it was time to explore even further into how organs big and small work together. As we all love to eat the students decided that they wanted to learn about our bodies digestive system first. We had a great time by literally getting “hands on” by using their hands to recreate how our stomachs squish our food down before it takes its long journey around the small intestine.
Once we had learned more about so many vital but vulnerable organs it seemed obvious that the next stop on our learning journey should be to look at how our body is built to protect them. The children were amazed to find that we have so many bones inside us and that they connect together like a jigsaw.
With all of this new knowledge inside our brains the next thing to do was make sure we do our best to protect our bodies. So, it was decided that our classroom should been turned into a hospital! Stay tuned to find out how the children are learning about the importance of keeping track of how our bodies are developing and the best way to grow up to be as healthy as possible.
